Lent 2019

Lent is a good time to disentangle ourselves from all the things that get us tied up in knots. It is a time when er are called to simplify life and to focus more on others, rather than ourselves. It is the season to work on our inner freedom, as we prepare to celebrate again the death and resurrection of Jesus, the heart of our faith and the source of our freedom.

Yesterday, Wednesday 6th March 2019, was Ash Wednesday. A day of fasting, and is the first day of Lent in Western Christianity. Our Confirmation Candidates distributed the Ashes to our school community during the Mass as they prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation that they will receive during the Easter Vigil on Saturday 20th April. This cross of ashes tells friends and neighbours that we are not perfect, and that we know our own families, our school and parish communities and in our world and think about how we can be better people. It is a time when we are called to simplify life and to focus more on others, rather than ourselves. It is the season to work on our inner freedom, as we prepare to celebrate again the death and resurrection of Jesus, the heart of our faith and the source of our freedom.

Loving God, be with us in a special way during this time of Lent so that we can become a people of love and forgiveness. Help us to think about how we treat others, the way we act, the way we live our lives and how we can be more peaceful people. We make this prayer through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen
